The FN SCAR 16S 556 Rifle has a gas operated short-stroke piston system utilizing an interchangeable free floating, cold hammer-forged 16.25" MIL-SPEC barrel with hard-chromed bore and birdcage-style muzzle break.  There are fully amibidextrous operating controls and multiple rails.  The sights are folding adjustable rear sight and folding hooded front sight.  The multiple rail system includes: integrated MIL-STD 1913 rail at 12 o'clock position on an alloy receiver plus 3 more MIL-STD 1913 rails at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.

The trigger system is a polymer trigger module w/molded-in Flat Dark Earth parts.  The stock is a side-folding Flat Dark Earth Tan polymer stock that instantly adjusts for both comb height & length of pull.  The pistol grip is an A2-type checkered pistol grip with finger-indexing ridges.
